50 Victoria Street
A modern office building has been constructed on the northern edge of Chews Lane, at 50 Victoria St. It acts as a contemporary marker for the precinct and showcases the best of Athfield design. Stepping out floor by floor as it rises up, the building overhangs Victoria Street like a glass lantern — providing a striking landmark on the streetscape day and night. The building has an environmentally sustainable focus: balconies shelter behind toughened glass panels, protected from street noise and wind, to assist natural air circulation. The first two levels have efficient floor plates of 1500 sq m, three are 1100 sq m, with the top floor being 900sq m.
Land Transport New Zealand have leased all six floors of the new office building, combined with the first and second floors of the two heritage buildings next door, 29-35 Willis Street, giving a total combined area of 7200 sqm. The structure of the building is now complete and LTNZ occupy its new offices from March 2008.
